Andrea Madarasová Gecková

Prof. Andrea Madarasova Geckova (1972) serves as a senior researcher and expert on social determinants of health, and research capacity building.  

Most of the studies carried out in her research team are cross-sectional population based studies, but also longitudinal and ecological studies were carried out as well. Recently she focused also on innovative methods stimulating participation of stakeholders (e.g. concept mapping). 

Since 2002 she has been responsible for the supervision of research projects in the framework of the Kosice Institute for Society and Health, focusing particularly on the social determinants of health among children, adolescents and young adults

She participates in several projects from national research agencies, in bilateral research projects between UPJS and UMCG  and in European projects. Moreover, she collaborates with WHO in a role of the expert in field of social determinants of health in collaboration with WHO office in Venice, Prague, Ljublana, Viljnuse and as a Slovakia's Principal Investigator for the Health Behaviour of School-aged Children study (HBSC)

A.Madarasova Geckova is an professor in Social Psychology (Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic, 2014).. She finished her PhD study in Medical Sciences by defending thesis on inequality in health among Slovak adolescents (University of Groningen, The Netherlands, 2002). She is graduated in Psychology (P.J.Safarik University in Kosice, Slovak Republic, 1995). She serves as co-promotor of PhD study in Medical Science (University of Groningen, The Netherlands) and Public Health (PJ Safarik University in Košice, Slovak Republic).

She has published more than hundred research papers in SSCI journals, resulting in more than 600 Scopus citationstations; her h-index is equal to 16.

Psychosocial development of health disadvantaged school-aged children project is realised as a part of Health of Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) study within grant VEGA 1/0895/14 of Scientific Grant Agency of the Ministry of Education, science, research and sport of the Slovak Republic and the Slovak Academy of Science.
